Please read '''everything''' <3
We’re located in a rural and mountainous area (700m a.s.l.), at the top of a small inner valley that has been left to itself for many years. The challenges are many, but the desire to live (at) Cà de Monti is alive and well—and it comes with a set of responsibilities we must embrace.

It should be noted that the hamlet of Cà de Monti is located in a rural, inland area that unfortunately has been left to itself for many years.
**Against abandonment and depopulation!**
The issues are numerous, but the desire to live in Cà de Monti implies a series of challenges that we must embrace.

Against abandonment and depopulation!
Conviviality and spontaneity are constant companions here, especially around meals—but more on that later.

Another thing to declare is that in Cà de Monti, which serves as the headquarters of the Habitat project, a communal life prevails.
General info to better understand this document:
This means that mutualism and mutual aid must always be employed, sharing is always appreciated, and spontaneous initiative must be "learned."

Conviviality and spontaneity are perennial companions, especially during meals: but we'll get to that later.
* **Cà de Monti is a home**, but also the headquarters of Habitat (District A). We are a cultural association, and you’ll become a part of it too.
* **Cà de Monti is a small village** made of two main buildings: the **upper one (B)** with bedrooms and shared workspaces, and the **lower one (A)** used mostly when there are more people around. We’ll explain what’s inside each building soon!
* Life here strives to be sustainable, caring, and respectful—in every possible meaning and expression.

* Cà de Monti is a village because it is composed of multiple buildings: the one higher up, where most of the sleeping places are generally allocated, and the one lower down where the large kitchen and halls are located.
* As it should be anywhere, life should be geared towards sustainability in every aspect.
* After the flood of May 2023 and the earthquakes of September 2023, there have been structural deteriorations. We are gradually fixing everything.

'''ALWAYS''' check the bus schedules, especially during weekends.
==Getting around==

'''If we need to pick you up in Faenza, we'll ask for a contribution for fuel. Keep in mind that it takes 45 minutes to descend and the same to ascend.'''
Without a car, expect to stay mostly at Cà de Monti.
You may catch rides or walk to Tredozio (\~40 mins downhill), but plan to spend quality time on-site.

==Cà de Monti==

[[File\:Mappa-ca-de-monti2.jpg|thumb|left|350px|The two buildings of Cà de Monti]]

=Essential Kit to Bring=
Cà de Monti has two main buildings: lower building **“A”**, upper building **“B”**.
You’re free to move between spaces and find what suits your activities.

There are many trails, so bring mountain boots for walking!
Some rooms have a contact person for help or guidance:
Bringing slippers from home is important since it's not appropriate to walk with shoes inside the house.
Bring thermal shirts and heavy clothes in general, temperatures like to change.

=Grocery Shopping=
Upper building (B):

We are experimenting with a total shared grocery and stuff, we calculated 10€ of food and utilities per day per person that includes ''everything'' (From coffee to pasta, from soap to house detergent, from toilet paper to quality extra virgin olive oil to cheese from the neighbor's (Pian di Stantino) (they have nice cows, there is no intensive farming!)) to wine to vegetables and blabla).
* Small kitchen for breakfast/light meals
* Publishing station (digital print) – *Contact: Pongie*
* Darkroom (B/W dev & print) – *Contact: Poni*
* “Bisca” multipurpose room
* Library
* Bedrooms

Let us know if you're down with it!
* **Woodshop** – *Contact: Beppe*
  **Never use the workshop alone. Always check with Beppe before starting a project.**

Since this is managed by the permanent residents and is not accountable, we kindly ask you to bring some cash for the fund.
Lower building (A):

Anyway:
* Professional kitchen with pizza/bread oven
We recommend and encourage purchasing bulk products, vegetables from the greengrocer, and as little meat as possible.
* Living room
Self-production is fantastic, so we also encourage making bread at home, as well as pasta, cakes, and sweets.
* Dining hall
Avoid packaged snacks like the plague and generally disposable things, a source of very little genuineness and immense plastic.
* Veranda and small tailoring space – *Contact: Chiara*
* Performance space – *Contact: Chiara*
* Exhibition space
* Server & tech corner – *Contact: Poni*

Fruit and vegetables from the supermarket are not at all the best.
==Surrounding Green==

We hope that our new brand garden gives its fruits as soon as possible!
Around Cà de Monti lies a vast area of woods, fields, and trails. Nearby: our garden, chestnut grove, sacred hill, and antenna.

Seasonal vegetables: morally obligatory (Here's a nice scheme to orient yourself).
This is all part of our ecosystem—treat it as if it were part of the house.
Overseas vegetables like avocados and bananas: really not respected.
In Tredozio, there's the market on Tuesdays and Fridays.
In Modigliana on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Nearby and friendly Agricultural Companies:
You can help water the plants if they look thirsty. Best times: early morning or evening (never in direct sun). We use rainwater collected in a well.
* Pian di Stantino, (almost) neighbors. Wine and dairy production (they have beautiful cows).
* Gradicciolo, (almost) neighbors. Beekeeping, so propose honey and similar things.
* (To be continued :)))))

Nearby supermarket: Conad in Modigliana, Conad in Rocca S. Casciano, various supermarkets in Faenza and Forlì
==Language & Inclusivity==

Nearby tobacconist: from Giorgio or at Bar Penna, both in Tredozio
We mainly speak Italian, but we all speak English too. When people from all over the world visit, we aim to make language an opportunity, not a barrier.
Use the most inclusive and widely understood language at any time—but don’t force it.
Language is also personal and cultural. Let's find a balance between clarity and authenticity.

=During your staying=
==Events==

While you're here, we may host events linked to our festival **Habitare**. Check the program: [https://habitattt.it/habitare/estate2025/](https://habitattt.it/habitare/estate2025/)

==Water==
The house becomes more public during these times—you might suddenly be surrounded by many people. But don’t worry, it’s all under control!

Water is a universal good, we know. In this Apennine area, drought sometimes knocks on the door, so it's important to remember to '''never''' linger with water, especially during showers.
If you'd like to help during events, your support is very welcome!

Hot water is (for now) only available in the "lower" building. There are two bathrooms equipped with showers.
==Practical Info==

In the higher floors of the "upper" building, water struggles to arrive due to the low water pressure from the source. In fact, during last year's flood, part of the hill where we are situated collapsed, obviously where the water pipe was. Now there's a patch, but this indicates that in various stretches from the source to us, there have been various breakdowns that have weakened the flow.
===Water===

==Greenery==
* Tap water is from a spring and **drinkable**.
* In dry periods, we must avoid water waste—especially with showers.
* Summer might bring water use restrictions. Drinking water will always be available.

In hot moments, it's good to give our plant friends a drink both early in the morning and in the evening (not during direct sunlight as it can harm the plants!).
===Electricity & Lights===

The water to be used is from the well, which is rainwater collected.
* Bills are rising—turn off lights in unused rooms.
* **Exception: the server.** If it’s off, let us know!

==Getting around on site==
Label and hold onto your device chargers—**don’t unplug others around the house**.

If you don't have a car, you should imagine that movements will be very limited; it's not straightforward or immediate to go shopping or to the tobacconist.
The pro kitchen lights have a separate switch—follow the arrow. **Don’t touch the rest!**
We urge you to take a look at where Cà de Monti is on online maps to understand a bit where we're located.

==Household Economy==
===Connectivity===

===Sheets and towels===
Wi-Fi is available in both houses but not in every room.
Networks:

If you don't bring your own sheets/towels, we ask for a contribution of €5 as if it were a rental. Then, you'll manage the washing yourself. When you leave, it will be our responsibility, of course. It's much appreciated if you put everything that needs washing on the floor.
* “**World Wide Habitat**”
* “**World Bridge Habitat**”
  Password: the **last word above + 00**

===Lights and electricity===
Mobile signal only works with **TIM and Coop Voce**.
'''Always''' turn off lights if you're not present in a certain place. Always!!
Also, turn off devices, both personal and household ones. Always keep track of your chargers. If borrowing, always ask first!

The only exception is about the server: if you find it off, turn it on :)
Expect to use your phone less (spoiler: you’ll feel great).

For the kitchen lights, they must be turned on from the *panel*: you'll notice a piece of tape with an arrow. The kitchen light switch is the one indicated. DO NOT touch the other switches!
===Basic Cleanliness===

===Glasses and cups===
* Clean up shared spaces after use (living rooms, garden, Bisca, etc.)
* A task chart (in the kitchen) assigns daily roles: cooking, prep, cleaning.
  Usually: if you don’t cook, you clean. Everyone eats.
* Always leave the kitchen clean for the next meal.
* Dishwasher in small kitchen (A)—check contents before use.
* Vacuum cleaner is in building A’s living room. Ask us for cleaning products.

When you take a glass or a cup, take a piece of paper tape (available near both kitchens) and write your name!
===Waste Sorting===

===Trash===
**A duty and a shared responsibility. If we don’t sort it here, we do it later at the dump.**

It's absolutely necessary to do separate waste collection.
<pre>
1) Organic → into the compost (near the garden)
2) Plastic + cans
3) Paper
4) Glass
5) Everything else (cigarette butts, sanitary products) → General waste

* Organic -> in the compost! (It's in the garden.)
**Never flush** sanitary products or other waste—they will clog the system.
* Plastic + cans
</pre>
* paper
* glass
The rest (which should be as little as possible) goes in the undifferentiated.

In the kitchen in the upper building, the bins are under the sink.
In small kitchen (A), bins are under the sink.
In the kitchen in the lower building, instead, they are located outside.
In pro kitchen (B), bins are outside—where everything gets sorted before it piles up indoors.

In the bathroom, only undifferentiated waste is thrown away; if there are things to recycle, please, take the waste to the respective bins.
===Kitchen Use===

===Coffee===
Breakfast is usually self-managed.
Lunch and dinner are often shared.
You’re not required at every meal! Based on the rotating roles, there’ll always be someone cooking or setting up.

Generally, whoever wakes up makes coffee. As usual, let's not abuse it because it's not very sustainable.
In the small kitchen, avoid noise at breakfast—**Beppe sleeps next door**!
If you drink it a lot, take into consideration to buy your personal one.
You can always eat in the Bisca or the garden if weather permits.

===Toilet paper===
===Pantry Management===
It's found either in the bathroom on the first floor of the upper house or in the cabinet in front of the bathrooms of the lower house. In case of doubt, ask.

===Cleaning===
Two fridges—one per kitchen.
We encourage not to leave dirt, simply :)
Use them for your own food. Ask before using someone else’s.
Small kitchen has essentials and dry pantry. You’ll have space for your personal items.
The industrial fridge (downstairs) is turned off—used as pantry space.

The vacuum cleaner is in the "chill" area of the upper house, the cleaning products are a bit scattered. It's easier to ask us often :)
===Cups and Mugs===

The kitchen must be cleaned after meals; in rare exceptions, it's cleaned the next day. Again, generally, whoever doesn't cook cleans. If you want to eat alone or use the kitchen anyway, you absolutely must wash the utensils you use.
Pick one and **label it with your name**. Reuse it throughout the day.

==Kitchen(s) Management==
===Coffee===

Regarding meals: generally, breakfast is totally self-managed and personal, meals are generally shared. But it's absolutely not mandatory.
If you make coffee, **leave some for others**—there’s nothing better than finding fresh coffee in the morning :)

Generally, the kitchen in the upper building is for breakfast, the industrial one downstairs for cooking other meals.
If you’re picky about coffee, bring your own!

==Pantry Management==
===Sheets & Towels===
There are two refrigerators, one per kitchen.
In both, it's a good idea to tag your belongings with a marker.
If you need something someone else has, you must always ask for permission first.
Regarding the dry pantry, there are several spaces in the back of the large kitchen. We recommend taking a cardboard box or something similar and making your own compartment.
There's a turned-off industrial refrigerator that serves as a pantry.

==Connectivity==
If you don’t bring your own, we ask for a **5€ contribution**.
Mobile network, except for Tim and Coop Voce, doesn't work.
You'll handle laundry during your stay; we’ll wash them after you leave.
We have Wifi.
Leave them on the bed before you go :)

==Ticks!==
===Laundry===
During spring periods, ticks abound.
If you get one, don't panic and ask us how to remove it.
In any case, upon returning from walks, it's good practice to check everywhere.

We have tweezers to use. When removing the tick, it must be burned with a lighter (violent but really necessary).
Washing machine is downstairs, with detergents provided. Use it when needed and try to make full loads.
After using the tweezers, it must be sterilized by boiling it in water.
Access via the main living room—look for the “Laundry” door.

On sunny days, hang your laundry outside on the terrace.

===Toilet Paper & Soaps===

=When you are going to leave=
If you run out, go to the lower house (B). Supplies are in a cupboard near the bathrooms.

==Payments==
===Ticks!===
Before coming to us, it's necessary to join the association through the form: https://forms.gle/DbixvS9p8PRKm4mG8

For the stay, you can pay by cash, PayPal, satispay, or even with the pos.
After walks (especially spring/summer), **check yourself thoroughly**: armpits, knees, groin, hidden spots.
If you find one, use tweezers—we’ll help remove it.
Once removed, **burn the tick**. Sterilize the tweezers right after.

If you’re picky about coffee, bring your own!

Sheets & Towels

If you don’t bring your own, we ask for a **5€ contribution**. You'll handle laundry during your stay; we’ll wash them after you leave. Leave them on the bed before you go :)

Laundry

Washing machine is downstairs, with detergents provided. Use it when needed and try to make full loads. Access via the main living room—look for the “Laundry” door.

On sunny days, hang your laundry outside on the terrace.

Toilet Paper & Soaps

If you run out, go to the lower house (B). Supplies are in a cupboard near the bathrooms.

Ticks!

After walks (especially spring/summer), **check yourself thoroughly**: armpits, knees, groin, hidden spots. If you find one, use tweezers—we’ll help remove it. Once removed, **burn the tick**. Sterilize the tweezers right after.
