Ciao!

Qua il Ministro delle Infrastrutture Federico Poni.

Some thoughts about Habitat:

Habitat is a concept, is a principle, is a living project, is an expanded family, is a collective workshop, is a chaotic incubator of ideas, is a chili place for playing, is rurality -- which attempts to reactivate the rurality areas.

Habitat is a Plato's World of Ideas, further we have an Holy Mountain, a sacred place recurrent in different religions and subject of many legends. Indeed we are set in a hill in the italian Appennino Tosco-Romagnolo, named Ca' de Monti, and at the very top of the hill we have a big rock simulating the Holy Mountain. Even after months around here we didn't really get if the Holy Mountain is natural or artificial; rumors said that the owner of the land wanted to built an airport for ultra-light airplane: it could be that the Holy Mountain has been generated after preparatory work for it.

Next to the Holy Mountain there is an Holy Antenna: the national mobile service installed on the hill a 4G (or 5G, it has to be understood); from our cottage we can see another antenna on the other hill, it's clear there is a constellation of antenna in order to spread on the valley mobile internet. Even if we are in the constellation of antennas, is very rare that mobile phones work. This create a particular urbanism: we don't think about urbanistic in a mere architecture infrastructure meaning, but we imagine urbanism as the dynamics that happens in the ecosystem. In other words, how to dwell the territory.

Not having the constant signal on our device generates another way of living. The approach on the everyday actions is just different, if you want to call your grandparents you have to find the signal walking around, and it's not easy. But we accept it, there are no goals to try to get better connections.

(There is just one mobile service which work, probably the antenna's owner one, but just a few got that service)

Anyhow, we have our internet access point, further we self-host our digital realm. It means we have our server in our cottage (where also this wiki is running in it) linked to our router.

The first principle of digital infrastructure's morphology of Habitat is the radio spectrum. Without telecomunication we would not have any internet. A long-range WiFi service gives us the access to the global network, the Internet. A little parabola is the meta-bridge between our hill and the "out there".

The little parabola gives the connection to a router in the co-working room, in fact the urbanism in that room is particular. You can freely infinite scroll only there.

We are proud to live in the rurality, but we are aware of the global complexity. Our main goal is not changing the entire world, but is to build our world. Live in Milan or Rotterdam is not the only way of living.

Sense-making: what can we take into account for a new community? Community-Building: how can we create our immaterial sense?

We must have a constant dialogue with the world out there: we are ultra-territorial.

Ultra-Territorial

The etymology of ultra comes from latin and it got a double meaning:

  • Beyond
  • Extremely

Ultra is a prefix, and we are using it in front of "territorial". Our approach to the territory is indeed double:

An extreme territorial approach, giving extreme importance to the land we are living in, preferring local assets. We are currently experimenting also local connectivity such as local networks or AM beacons.

A beyond the land approach, recognizing the limits of the borders; in practical terms, for instance, using external places and assets to develop different meaning of publications: using the Station at the Wilem de Koonig Academy in Rotterdam to print booklets; another simple example is just use internet, like use it to download softwares aimed to create local access points.

Those two approaches are in dialogue, generating a multitude of different situations. In between you can find the situations created in the villages near by such as Portico and San Benedetto in Alpe, Roccasancasciano and Tredozio.
