"Giardino" is an ever-growing publication and archive space curated by Habitat's current and past residents. It is built with MediaWiki, a wiki software that allows the creations of hypertext publications collaboratively edited and managed by its own audience, directly using a web browser.

Our "Giardino" is intended to be a shared space for collective care. Here, thoughts, knowledge, tools, processes and paths merge while flourishing together. Just like a garden, it takes time, patience and resources - in this case, provided by Habitat's dwellers and contributors.

The residency is aimed at forming an editorial-curatorial team that knows how to relate to the archives, experiments, documentation, artefacts, recordings, and experiences collected along the path that led Habitat to transform itself from a temporary event into a cult(r)ural settlement, permanently established in the territory of Romagna toscana.

chatty messy sticky tsss.. is a workshop curated by Chaeyoung Kim and Nami Kim, exploring collective values in an action of binding.

In the first session, participants will create a random publication as a group, casually talking about their daily sentiments during the moment of binding. The second part of the workshop will be a collaborative cooking using ingredients that the participants have brought.

Chaeyoung and Nami are two South Korean artists currently based in Rotterdam, also part of XPUB. They will guide us into Relay book-binding and Buchimgae (Korean pancakes) cooking.

Habitat Radio 007: Fototeca Manfrediana

Da oggi è disponibile una nuova puntata di Parole e Taralli su Radio Habitat! Un'ora di chiacchiere al fresco con la Fototeca Manfrediana, immaginando percorsi di valorizzazione archivistica ed esplorazione fotografica tra la dimensione urbana e quella rurale.

Nella puntata vengono affrontati gli stessi temi in relazione a possibili forme di archiviazione, a partire dall’eredità micro-territoriale del luogo; oltre che approfondire gli approcci con cui i fotografi (Gianmarco Magnani, Stefano Tedioli, Matteo Cavina, Luna Capalti e Michele Argnani) hanno vissuto l’esplorazione e l’adattamento alla residenza.

Rotolare, dipingere, infarinare, piantare, impastare, infrangere, sporcare, raccogliere, custodire, stampare, ballare.

Durante il laboratorio di cucito organizzato da Labo Cucito (Chiara Donati), impareremo a cucire e confezionare grembiuli per il tempo libero, utilizzando vecchie tele, stracci, tovaglie e lenzuoli della nonna.In un secondo momento, potremo creare degli stampi in legno per stampare con l’inchiostro alla ruggine per insaporire il nostro Grambiél!

Il laboratorio di cucito [ri]creativo è aperto a tutti; sia per avvicinarci al mondo del cucito e dell’upcycling, che per i già appassionati che vogliono sperimentare pratiche di cucito collettivo, condividendo la propria esperienza.

Un rituale per creare sculture di carta riciclata che abitano e rendono fertile il bosco.

Carta che si sgretola.
Cellulosa che si ricompone.
Materia organica che, decomponendosi,
fa spazio alla fertilità.

Dopo aver costruito telai di legno, macerato e ricomposto la cellulosa formando sculture, i vostri spiritelli di carta animeranno i boschi intorno a Cà de Monti. Con il rituale della messa a dimora, ognuna di esse troverà uno spazio per decomporsi, immetendo un seme per favorire la crescita di nuovi alberi.

Dopo qualche settimana di letargo (fuori stagione) torniamo con una notizia scoppiettante: il 30 Luglio a Cà de Monti avremo il piacere di ospitare The Zenmenn in concerto. Il loro album di debutto “Enter the Zenmenn” è stato pubblicato da Music From Memory. Una calda traversata verso altre culture, ambienti esotici e floreali. A nostro parere, l’album dell’anno.

A condividere il prato dalle ore 20, il giardiniere sonico Hollyspleef. Inauguriamo così la stagione estiva di ospitalità e laboratori per Habitat! Programma di Agosto in arrivo 🔍

As part of the 2021-22 Experimental Publishing Master class at Piet Zwart Institute - Jacopo Lega and Federico Poni, respectively Director and Minister of Infrastructures of Habitat, will take part of Walkie-Talkie: the XPUB 2022 Graduation Show. The S/ash Gallery in Worm will be shaped and lived as an extension of Habitat's archive, in which the digital files archived in our server (in Cà de Monti) will be physically transposed or activated inside the exhibitions space.

Habitat @Art Meets Radical Openness

AMRO – Art Meets Radical Openness
Linz, Austria

Habitat and Varia will collaborate on a networked documentation layer of the AMRO festival. The content gathering part will be a shared effort, from which two publishing formats will be rendered: a printed bulletin (AMRO Times) and an online radio platform (AMRO Tribes).

Calling all quote enthusiasts, micro loggers, amateur photographers and partial documenters to join the editorial team of the AMRO Times! All together we will gather material to build a collective memory of the festival and feed-forward it in a printed form into the networks of networks surrounding AMRO.

We will introduce a networked workflow based on pads, RSS feeds and web-to-print techniques. The gathering of content will happen throughout the festival and can be done in a range of formats. Roles can be rotated, source credibility can be fluid, authorship can be blurred, opinions can be bent, consent will be practised.

I° Concerto della Piana del Cavallo

Giovedì 2 Giugno: Habitat, vi invita al I° Concerto della Piana del Cavallo

Il Concerto non è solo una orchestra di musicisti che suona brani, ma anche un'accordo per compiere un'azione comune tra più persone: la comunità della Valle del Tramazzo concerta per narrare la propria storia, lontana o recente, ma anche futura.

Habitat, residenza e laboratorio collettivo con base a Cà de Monti, vi propone un pomeriggio di letture, ascolto, danza, messe in scena di personaggi, esecuzioni musicali. Il cuore del Concerto sarà una trasmissione Radio, mandata in onda dalla Piana del Cavallo, nei pressi di Cà de Monti. Ci saranno personaggi che vengono dalla mitologia della Comunità: una mitologia che deve essere creata lentamente, che affonda le sue radici nella tradizione locale e avrà evoluzione nel dialogo insieme.

Venite a raccontarci le vostre storie, recitare le poesie, esprimere desideri, immaginare cose che ancora non esistono! Portate con voi fotografie, libri, poesie o diari, ricette e storie da raccontare su Tredozio, le vicine valli, e i suoi personaggi... Rinfreschiamo insieme la memoria!

Dopo il Concerto, cucineremo dei panzerotti per tutte e tutti. Un momento convivale non può che finire con un pasto condiviso!

"Impastiamo e inforniamo futuri desiderabili" - Forno Vagabondo

Matteo e Flora di Forno Vagabondo ci hanno raggiunto a bordo del loro Westfalia da Bolzano, e hanno speso con noi una settimana. Hanno condiviso con noi le loro conoscenze sulla panificazione, sui materiali poveri e le tecniche di lavorazione manuali. Così, oltre che aver costruito un compost per il futuro orto di Cà de Monti, con l’argilla recuperata vicino a Cà de Monti hanno progettato un forno per il pane, a cui abbiamo dato vita con tutte le nostre mani. Da ora il nostro forno vagabondo è pronto per avventurarsi in sessioni nomadi di panificazione. Che sia questo un modo per ridare vita ad un qualche borgo abbandonato? Lo scopriremo presto.

Cave Recordings with Funclab Records

Over the last few days Andrea Dissimile - Mecna's and 72h Post Fight's drummer - together with Turenne and Prev from Funclab Records, came back to Habitat to experiment with outdoor drum recording techniques. We dove in an abandoned underground chalk quarry to grab every reflection the cave had to offer. Needless to say, the results are extraordinary: the sound of the drum kit blending with the environment, finding its place in the natural soundscape.

Studio For Immediate Spaces at Habitat

Le due classi del master Studio for Immediate Spaces del Sandberg Instituut di Amsterdam, insieme a loro coordinatore Julian Schubert saranno ospiti di Habitat per il programma "Prole di Zeno. Broadcasts from Planet Garden". Dopo aver trascorso una settimana a Roma, si sposteranno a Cà de Monti a Tredozio, dove saranno residenti dal 9 al 17 Aprile. Un piacere per noi, oltre che un’importante opportunità per la sperimentazione di pratiche e linguaggi per l’immaginazione collettiva di un nuovo paesaggio culturale per la Romagna toscana.

Studio for Immediate Spaces at Habitat
Sunday 09.04 – Sunday 17.04.2022

Prole di Zeno is situated in a rural future scenario in the Romagna toscana's landscape, in a garden that will span the world just as the current urban condition reshapes what has been there before. When in an interplay of draughts and floods a comforting and nourishing environment can’t be taken as granted, nature needs to be cared for. Yet the planetary garden in its ubiquitous condition wont be the focus but the context of the artefacts being produced in this workshop referring to peasant Zeno whose practice Superstudio documented as part of their project on „Cultura Materiale Extraurbana“. Artefacts – analog as well as digital, sheets of paper as well as radio waves – will give an idea of a life mediating between the observed and the imaginary, the local and the cosmopolitan, the archaic and hi-tech. The artefacts hint on potential rituals, habits and tools embedded in this new circular, post-fossil, post-orientational, new bucolic lifestyle, yet they wont explain all aspects of that life comprehensively. They will paint an image by an idea of the food being eaten, the music be heard, the discussion be held.

Collective Memory: on Documenting and Archiving Alternative Housing Strategies

12:30 - 14:30 Habitat will take part of the workshop Collective Memory: on Documenting and Archiving Alternative, part of Housing Futures Festival, organised by Indipendent School for the City at Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam.

"What strategies are there to document and preserve the tactics, practices and spaces related to alternative housing for current and future generations? This two-day workshop looks at the role of the archive and archiving as a long-term strategy, and discusses examples of both autonomous and institutional archives and tools and strategies to collectively document, select, preserve and make information accessible. From annotating and anonymising information, to using documents in (legal) processes and the collective caretaking of archives. In the second part of the workshop we will research and practice different ways of collectively archiving autonomous communities and their spaces."

Habitats' infrastructure will be presented by Federico Poni at Natural Intelligence, the third part of FIBER’s Reassemble Lab, which takes place between 10 and 13th March in Amsterdam and that "will explore alternative internet infrastructures based on earthly dynamics, low-carbon solutions and ecological ethics".

Alecio Ferrari and Anna Carol using Habitat as a living Set

Alecio Ferrari has chosen Habitat as a living Set for Anna Carol's upcoming album on Nufabric Records. Anna Carol is a nu-soul singer and songwriter based in Bolzano. Together with Alecio Ferrari - a still-life oriented talented photographer based in Milan and Rotterdam, Eric (Assistant), Giulia and Cinzia, they spent 4 days in Cà de Monti to work on her latest cover pictures. It was a pleasure to see the team work evolving, while including some artworks as a part of the scenography such as the nomad sculpture(s) designed by Camilo Garcìa Aycardi, Floor Van Meeuwen, Anna Sandri, Avital Barkai and the sculpture made by Leonardo De Marchi.

A partire da Gennaio 2022, Cà de Monti - il borgo in cui Habitat si sta stanziando permanentemente, apre le sue porte per tutto l'anno, grazie ad una azione congiunta tra Habitat e l'associazione culturale Distretto A.

Sarà possibile quindi risiedere e lavorare a Cà de Monti, per periodi di breve, medio e lungo termine. Offriamo spazi di vita, laboratori e strumenti condivisi per poter creare e fare ricerca, immergendosi nell'atmosfera conviviale della residenza, privilegiati dal silenzio dei monti e delle vicine Foreste Casentinesi. Se sei interessato e pensi di voler passare un po' di tempo fuori-dai-radar, conoscere nuove persone, stimolare pratiche di creazione manuali e collettive, inviaci una mail a info@habitattt.it.
