This page lists the "commons," a list of practical things to adopt when coming to and staying at Cà de Monti. It is extremely important to follow and adopt these proposals for good collective and community living.

Please read everything <3

It should be noted that the hamlet of Cà de Monti is located in a rural, inland area that unfortunately has been left to itself for many years. The issues are numerous, but the desire to live in Cà de Monti implies a series of challenges that we must embrace.

Against abandonment and depopulation!

Another thing to declare is that in Cà de Monti, which serves as the headquarters of the Habitat project, a communal life prevails. This means that mutualism and mutual aid must always be employed, sharing is always appreciated, and spontaneous initiative must be "learned."

Conviviality and spontaneity are perennial companions, especially during meals: but we'll get to that later.

General information to better understand this document:

  • Cà de Monti is a village because it is composed of multiple buildings: the one higher up, where most of the sleeping places are generally allocated, and the one lower down where the large kitchen and halls are located.
  • As it should be anywhere, life should be geared towards sustainability in every aspect.
  • After the flood of May 2023 and the earthquakes of September 2023, there have been structural deteriorations. We are gradually fixing everything.

Water

Water is a universal good, we know. In this Apennine area, drought sometimes knocks on the door, so it's important to remember to never linger with water, especially during showers.

Hot water is (for now) only available in the "lower" building. There are two bathrooms equipped with showers.

In the higher floors of the "upper" building, water struggles to arrive due to the low water pressure from the source. In fact, during last year's flood, part of the hill where we are situated collapsed, obviously where the water pipe was. Now there's a patch, but this indicates that in various stretches from the source to us, there have been various breakdowns that have weakened the flow.

Greenery

In hot moments, it's good to give our plant friends a drink both early in the morning and in the evening (not during direct sunlight as it can harm the plants!).

The water to be used is from the well, which is rainwater collected.

How to get there?

Cà de Monti is located above the village of Tredozio.

Car: Simply search for "Cà de Monti, Tredozio" on online maps.

Plane: It's better not to take it, but the nearest airports are in Forlì, Bologna, and Florence.

Public transport: Train to Faenza (beware, there's a regional inter-Apennine train (fantastic view) direct from Florence!), bus from Faenza to Tredozio. Timetable here: https://cooptrasportiriolo.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/linea-189-scol.pdf

ALWAYS check the bus schedules, especially during weekends.

If we need to pick you up in Faenza, we'll ask for a contribution for fuel. Keep in mind that it takes 45 minutes to descend and the same to ascend.

Getting around on site

If you don't have a car, you should imagine that movements will be very limited; it's not straightforward or immediate to go shopping or to the tobacconist. We urge you to take a look at where Cà de Monti is on online maps to understand a bit where we're located.

Household Economy

Contribution for essentials

Oil, coffee, hand soaps, cleaners and detergents (we're gradually switching to only having eco-friendly and organic products), toilet paper, and various necessary products will be managed by us. We'll ask for a weekly amount of €10 per person, or €2 per day.

Sheets and towels

If you don't bring your own sheets/towels, we ask for a contribution of €5 as if it were a rental. Then, you'll manage the washing yourself. When you leave, it will be our responsibility, of course. It's much appreciated if you put everything that needs washing on the floor.

Lights and electricity

Always turn off lights if you're not present in a certain place. Always!! Also, turn off devices, both personal and household ones. Always keep track of your chargers. If borrowing, always ask first!

If you find the server off, turn it on :)

For the kitchen lights, they must be turned on from the *panel*: you'll notice a piece of tape with an arrow. The kitchen light switch is the one indicated. DO NOT touch the other switches!

Glasses and cups

When you take a glass or a cup, take a piece of paper tape (available near both kitchens) and write your name! The reason, I think, is obvious.

Trash

It's absolutely necessary to do separate waste collection.

  • Organic -> in the compost! (It's in the garden.)
  • Plastic + cans
  • paper
  • glass

The rest (which should be as little as possible) goes in the undifferentiated.

In the kitchen in the upper building, the bins are under the sink. In the kitchen in the lower building, instead, they are located outside.

In the bathroom, only undifferentiated waste is thrown away; if there are things to recycle, please, take the waste to the respective bins.

Coffee

Generally, whoever wakes up makes coffee. As usual, let's not abuse it because it's not very sustainable.

Toilet paper

It's found either in the bathroom on the first floor of the upper house or in the cabinet in front of the bathrooms of the lower house. In case of doubt, ask.

Cleaning

We encourage not to leave dirt, simply :)

The vacuum cleaner is in the "chill" area of the upper house, the cleaning products are a bit scattered. It's easier to ask us often :)

The kitchen must be cleaned after meals; in rare exceptions, it's cleaned the next day. Again, generally, whoever doesn't cook cleans. If you want to eat alone or use the kitchen anyway, you absolutely must wash the utensils you use.

Essential Kit to Bring

There are many trails, so bring mountain boots for walking! Bringing slippers from home is important since it's not appropriate to walk with shoes inside the house. Bring thermal shirts and heavy clothes in general, temperatures like to change.

Grocery Shopping

It's necessary to do your shopping before arriving.

We recommend and encourage purchasing bulk products, vegetables from the greengrocer, and as little meat as possible. Self-production is fantastic, so we also encourage making bread at home, as well as pasta, cakes, and sweets. Avoid packaged snacks like the plague and generally disposable things, a source of very little genuineness and immense plastic.

Fruit and vegetables from the supermarket are not at all the best.

We hope that our new brand garden gives its fruits as soon as possible!

Seasonal vegetables: morally obligatory (Here's a nice scheme to orient yourself). Overseas vegetables like avocados and bananas: really not respected. In Tredozio, there's the market on Tuesdays and Fridays. In Modigliana on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

It's good practice to agree to do a common vegetable shopping and pool resources.

Nearby and friendly Agricultural Companies:

  • Pian di Stantino, (almost) neighbors. Wine and dairy production (they have beautiful cows).
  • Gradicciolo, (almost) neighbors. Beekeeping, so propose honey and similar things.
  • (To be continued :)))))

Nearby supermarket: Conad in Modigliana, Conad in Rocca S. Casciano, various supermarkets in Faenza and Forlì

Nearby tobacconist: from Giorgio or at Bar Penna, both in Tredozio

Kitchen(s) Management

Regarding meals: generally, breakfast is totally self-managed and personal, meals are generally shared. But it's absolutely not mandatory.

Generally, the kitchen in the upper building is for breakfast, the industrial one downstairs for cooking other meals.

Pantry Management

There are two refrigerators, one per kitchen. In both, it's a good idea to tag your belongings with a marker. If you need something someone else has, you must always ask for permission first. Regarding the dry pantry, there are several spaces in the back of the large kitchen. We recommend taking a cardboard box or something similar and making your own compartment. There's a turned-off industrial refrigerator that serves as a pantry.

Ticks!

During spring periods, ticks abound. If you get one, don't panic and ask us how to remove it. In any case, upon returning from walks, it's good practice to check everywhere.

We have tweezers to use. When removing the tick, it must be burned with a lighter (violent but really necessary). After using the tweezers, it must be sterilized by boiling it in water.

Connectivity

Mobile network, except for Tim and Coop Voce, doesn't work. We have Wifi.
